Sooraj Barjatya never makes a film without him, David Dhawan always come up with a success formula with Salman as a protagonist and Sohail Khan, his brother cum producer has occasional hits up his sleeves. Salman quite gracefully played second fiddle to Madhuri Dixit in 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!' (1994) and Madhuri walked off with all the praise. Soon after the stupendous success of 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun!' turned over a new leaf from a chocolate boy hero to heavy duty action loaded flicks like Rakesh Roshan's 'Karan Arjun' and K K Singh's 'Veergati'. With occasional teasers like taking off the shirt, which became an instant rage, Sohail Khan was able to pull off a hit with “Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya’(1998) which displayed shirtless Salman Khan with his antics.
Sanjay Bhansali. 'Khamoshi' (1996) saw Salman unleashing his acting talents and depth. Playing a role of a sensitive music composer in love with a daughter of deaf & dumb couple, his acting capabilities came to the fore. He followed this with another stellar performance in 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' playing opposite Aishwarya Rai, who was by that time being linked to Salman, as his love interest. Both of them have denied it time and again, and are keeping shut about it.
In one of the most harrowing times which cast an evil spell on his life, Salman got arrested in Rajasthan towards the end of 1998, while shooting for Barjatya's 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'. Charged for hunting down the endangered black buck deer, he was taken into custody only to be released later. And the industry had a sigh of relief as close to Rs. 100 Crores in production was riding on his shoulders.
But Salman kept quite and let his work do the talking. Scoring numerous hits in succession, for Salman there has been no looking back. His movie career has gone from strength to strength and he has a carved out a niche for himself, which many only dream about. Attempts to blot his image have had no bearing on his soaring popularity and career graph. In fact his contributions to Indian cinema can not be discounted for any reason whatsoever. He commands respect, love and appreciation from his peers and other quarters of public life. His qualitative work has found enough takers as well as critical acclaim. The continuous streak of commercial success in the last one and half decade, make his movies, a collector’s delight. He’s a movie buff’s dream come true and an ageless poster boy who has kept the entire nation entertained for years on end. Many envy his magic with people and his uncanny ability to strike it with the audience. But all said and done, he has still got years on his side and miles to go. For the time being there seems to be no stopping, personally and professionally. There’s only one Salman Khan and he simply goes on.
